Snap's Perplexity Deal: Are We Officially Living in a Dystopia?

Okay, so Snap's partnering with Perplexity for a $400 million integration. Cool. Or, you know, not. My feed is already blowing up with people celebrating this as some kind of "innovation." Give me a break. It's just another step towards fully outsourcing our brains to AI.

"Our goal is to make AI more personal, social, and fun," says Evan Spiegel. Translation: "We want to make sure you never have to think for yourself again, and we'll mine every single interaction for data while we're at it."

Dumber, Faster, More Surveilled

Let's be real: Snapchat is already a black hole of fleeting, vapid content. Now they're injecting a dose of AI-powered "answers" into the mix? What could possibly go wrong? We're talking about a platform where people primarily communicate with disappearing photos and videos. The depth of intellectual curiosity on Snapchat is, shall we say, limited. So, who exactly is clamoring for AI-generated explanations within a goddamn chat window?

And Perplexity? Sure, they claim to be about "bridging the gap between traditional search engines and AI-driven interfaces." But isn't that just a fancy way of saying they're making it even easier to avoid actual research?

I'm old enough to remember when the internet was supposed to be this vast, democratized library of information. Now it's just a bunch of algorithms feeding us pre-packaged "answers" based on what they think we want to hear. I miss the days when you had to actually look for stuff. You stumbled across weird stuff, learned things you didn't expect. Now? Everything's curated, optimized, sanitized.

Snap Stock: Strong Forecast, Perplexity Deal... Seriously?

Offcourse, the real kicker here is the data grab. "Snapchatter messages sent to Perplexity will help enhance personalization on Snapchat." Oh, joy. So, every dumb question, every fleeting thought I type into that app is going to be fed into the AI machine to make sure I get even more targeted ads.

The Illusion of Choice

Snapchatters will "still be able to chat with the existing My AI chatbot," the press release assures us. So generous of them. We get two AI overlords to choose from now! It's like being offered a choice between getting waterboarded with lukewarm water or ice water. Either way, you're still getting waterboarded.

And hey, remember that $500 million stock buyback they announced alongside some vaguely positive earnings reports? As reported by Benzinga, Snap Soars On Q3 Earnings, $500 Million Stock Buyback - Snap (NYSE:SNAP), that’s totally relevant to… oh, wait, it is relevant. It all feeds into the same narrative: pump up the stock price, keep the shareholders happy, and who cares if the product is slowly turning into a digital lobotomy?

Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one here. Maybe everyone else is perfectly happy to have their brains spoon-fed by algorithms. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man yelling at a cloud. But I can't shake the feeling that we're trading genuine curiosity and critical thinking for convenience and… well, for nothing, really.

Waiting for the Singularity to Finally Kill Us All

Look, I get it. AI is the future. Or so they keep telling us. But is it really progress if it makes us dumber, more compliant, and easier to manipulate? I don't know, man. I just don't know. It feels like we're willingly walking into a digital cage, and the bars are made of targeted advertising and AI-generated bullshit.

We're Officially Screwed
